How can I prepare for a skin prick test?
Please avoid taking antihistamine tablets for 5 days prior to your skin prick test. Please also avoid nasal sprays containing antihistamine for 2 days (e.g. Ryaltris, Dymista, Azep). Please don't put moisturising cream, steroid creams or ointments or sunscreen on your forearms for 24 hours. BUT, if pausing your antihistamine treatment would make you very uncomfortable due to allergy symptoms, please do continue your usual treatment and we will arrange alternative allergy testing.
Also, please note that most patients with chronic urticaria (hives) do not need a skin prick test.
